News

08/June/2008

Good News! Our main server (TheRift) has been fixed. Our service provider located the fault to the PSU which has now been replaced.

The network has been decentralised somemore so should TheRift have any more issues in the future it won't take much with it when it goes down. Some backup / new facilities have been brought online, including:

1) Additional Nameservers - Meaning should TheRift go down anything ViSiON-iRC.net based (Such as this website, roundrobin etc) will still be resolvable.

2) A New Hub - The networks hub (allows all the various servers to see each other) has been moved to a different server, therift.vision-irc.net is staying but is just a regular server like Hiro / Sylar now. The new hub is called tardis.vision-irc.net and is located in the same datacentre but a different server than TheRift, feel free to connect via it.

3) Online Monitor - If you look to the right we've setup a monitor which shows which servers are on and offline.

We recommend that you bookmark this site for future reference, should the network ever go down this is where we'll get a message to you all. We'd also recommend you make a note of each of the irc servers ip's, there are:

therift.vision-irc.net - 84.16.240.156
hiro.vision-irc.net - 67.159.24.183
sylar.vision-irc.net - 202.49.187.38
tardis.vision-irc.net - 78.159.98.212

It's always best to connect to the server nearest to your geographical location, but to always have a complete list of all servers on the network should 1 or more go down. To see where our servers our hosted click on the servers tab above.

Until Next Time

About

The Place You Call Home

ViSiON-iRC was started when a little place called Forever-IRC disapeared.
This was because Ninja-Cinders & T0kra (you remember them) decided that
IRC wasn't for them anymore.

After much discussion between the remaining network staff and a few regular users,
it was decided that a new network should be created and FriedCPU should be the
Network Admin (who suggested that?) because he knew how to setup iRCDS (it was rumoured).

Seeing as t0kra had given us quite abit of notice we had some time to
get the network operational and fully tested before we let you lot wreck it.

So around the 30th of March 2007 (not totally sure, CHerron correct me on this)
ViSiON-iRC was born! :)

Channels

Places to Visit on Your Travels

To get a full list of the networks channels type /list. As you can see, I didn't mention
all of the channels (mostly because I'm lazy).

If you want your channel adding to the list contact FriedCPU or CHerron and we may look kindly upon your request (doubt it though).

#ViSiON-iRC - Official Chat & Help Channel
Go here if you need any network related help. Unfortunately, chat is a rare object
in this channel, and you would have trouble finding it if you were hunting.

#DigiTelly - Tellying Your Brains Out
Being the channel-to-go if you're into TV. You can park your fserver here and share with the rest of the community. Silent leeching will be punished ... severely ... and in a messy, bloody and cruel way ... also we got an arab, that we'll send after you!

#Discovery - To Discover Our Far Away Neighbours
You compete with others each week to see who can come up with the most interesting discovery that week. Other people volunteer to judge the discoveries and determine
who has the best one.

#GameSpot - The Game Channel
Unofficially, this is the most popular channel on the network. However, nobody apparently knows that because only a few people populate it. It obviously deals with games.

#MuSiC - For all your UK top 40 singles, Artist and Compilation albums and much more
For those Chris Moyles wanna be's out there, Wizzard93 invites you to share MP3s and get updated UK single and album Charts.

#wurzelgnom - German Chat Channel
We don't go here it's full of funny speaking foreigners. Far as we can tell they're planning to take over the network and then the world. Don't they ever learn!

Donations

Money Makes The World Go Round

ViSiON-iRC is a private network and is kept running by donations from its members.

These donations, no matter how big or small, all go towards paying for the running of the server and the bandwidth it uses.

So what do the donations go towards getting?

Besides running the infrasrtucture of the network it also provides the bots in the channels.

Different Channel owners use these but for different things but predominantly they are seen serving files to channel members at higher speeds than can be found on fservs(these are user that serve) in those channels.

If you would like to make a donation to the network then we use paypal. Just send your donation to donate@vision-irc.net

We don't ask for you to send a great deal- just what you could afford. A small amount like 5 or 10 euros a month (or the equivalent in your local currency) is more than enough should everyone donate.

If you have any questions about donations then please speak to any of the network staff.
